The
mission of the Ryan Palmer Foundation (the “Foundation”) is
to promote community involvement through the sport of golf, with a constant
focus on the health and education of today’s young people and their
opportunity to succeed. The Foundation’s mission emphasizes three
general principals: the education, health and opportunity to succeed of
today’s youth. The Foundation separates these three general principals
into the three basic tenets in which seeks to further its exempt purposes:
(1) Etiquette (Education) (2) Athleticism (Health) and (3) Achievement
(Opportunity to Succeed).
• Tenet 1 – Etiquette (Education): Golf has a unique etiquette and is a sport that emphasizes the values of self regulation, self discipline, honesty, trust, and respect. These are the same values necessary to succeed in society and in academics. Future Activities: Mentor Golf Program: This activity will involve pairing trained volunteers (who have passed adequate background checks) with youth in need of role models. The Foundation will instruct the trained volunteers (the “Mentor”) on how to relay the etiquette values of golf (discussed above) to the life of that young person (the “Mentee”). The Foundation will not discriminate based on race, color, creed, or national origin. The Mentors will be required to interact with the Mentees at least twice a month. The setting for this interaction will be on a local public golf course at which the Mentor will take the youth to play golf and share the etiquette values of golf, and how these values correlate to success in life and academics. The Foundation will offset the expenses associated with the round of golf. Since an average round of golf lasts four hours, the Foundation anticipates that the positive interaction time on a golf course, in a public setting, will be substantial and will greatly impact the life of that young person. This activity will further the Foundation’s exempt purposes by creating a mentor/mentee relationship in which the values of self regulation, self discipline, honesty, trust and respect are emphasized, so that, today’s youth will have the tools necessary to succeed in social settings and academics. Essay Contest: The Foundation intends to establish a website in which youth can enter into a monthly essay contest. The essay subjects will be based on the values learned through golf such as self discipline, honesty, self regulation, trust, respect and diversity. This activity will further the Foundation’s exempt purposes by encouraging today’s youth to express themselves in a tangible medium. The essay winners shall receive a prize provided by the Ryan Palmer Foundation. |
